An Artist's Statement

I dwell in the realm of the imagination- where my fantasies are tangible and my reality nothing more than a flitting annoyance of daily routine. Relishing in the moments my pen becomes brush and its ink becomes paint, I scribble in fury to draw you into my state. I write stories; sometimes tragic, or comic- almost always fantastic- but will make you think about the world with its people and their ways. I am akin to a puppeteer, your thoughts are my puppets, my sentences are the strings that bring them to life. My goal is to make them dance for a lifetime. My goal is to change the way you think.

Growing up in East New York, I've witnessed things that have made me question the way the world is run. I've lost friends to drug and gang-related violence, witnessed Police officers refuse to get involved with muggings, and have watched as the neighborhoods worsened throughout the decade. The system in which we live is broken. We live in a world where it is acceptable to spend hundreds of dollars every year on toys and games and fancy clothing while people are left homeless and suffering. We live in a world where War is made to be seen as heroic or romantic, while we turn a blind eye to the lives that are left ruined in its wake. We live in a world where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

With every new generation, there is revolution- a shift in the ways the newer generation thinks and forms their ideas. It is because of this that a world that once believed slavery and racism were acceptable systems to live by has changed for the better. I believe Fiction is the greatest vehicle for ideas that are able to inflict change because of its ability to entertain as it instructs.

I am a writer of the subversive. My words are powerful, and with them, I will help to mold a better future.
